The Big Picture
If you find yourself overwhelmed and stressed out, I want you to back up and look at the whole picture.
If you still don't feel better, keep going bigger and bigger.
Back all the way out to what you believe about life itself.
What is your purpose?
What are the most important things to you and why?
When you can look at everything from a bird's eye view, you’ll get a perspective that you would not get otherwise.
I think this can be extremely powerful in any situation, especially health.
The word for “the big picture” is holism.
I obsessed with holism!
The dictionary definition of Holism is: the theory that parts of a whole are in intimate interconnection, such that they cannot exist independently of the whole, or cannot be understood without reference to the whole, which is thus regarded as greater than the sum of its parts. Holism is often applied to mental states, language, and ecology.
When you look at one misfunctioning part of the mind or body without looking at the whole picture, you miss what is at the root of your dis-ease.
You may treat the symptom and not even see the cause. You may not understand that the manifestation serves a much higher purpose that you didn't even realize.
I know, you must be thinking, "Did she really just say the symptoms that are driving me crazy may serve a higher purpose”?
Yes, I did!
I like to look at each client and his or her health from the big picture view.
Remember, symptoms are at the very top of the iceberg.
When you look at any problem holistically, it is typical to start with the biggest picture possible.
Is there something off in your mind, body, spirit, energy, or is it religious?
Looking at your problems from a big picture view also puts the "problem" into perspective as well.
Looking at the big picture will help you realize that most things are not a big deal!
I mean this in two different ways.
One, is it that big of a deal to have a weight issue or pesky health issues that you have to address?
Two, in the grand scheme of things, what is so hard about making small changes in the way you eat so that you have a much higher level of health?
You might not eat every time you feel like it or have an urge.
So what?
Will you care about not eating the cake at Aunt June's birthday on your deathbed?
Wouldn’t you instead want to look back at your life with a sense of peace that your focus was on what is important to you instead of food?
When you get tangled up in the weeds of, "I want to lose weight, but I just can't manage to feel all of my feelings", I want you to look at the big picture and see that, of course, you can feel that intense feeling to achieve long term well-being.
Most of my clients, and myself, have had health problems other than just weight issues. I want you to think about this the next time you are looking at the symptom. What could be contributing to it when you look at the big picture?
In modern day western medicine, you usually go to the doctor or health care professional for a symptom. You treat that symptom, forgetting to look at the whole picture.
Your energetic field, the way you think and feel, along with your lifestyle choices and habits, significantly influence your health!
We all know this deep in our core, but don't want to or know how to do the hard work of healing and implementing lasting changes.
You have forgotten that with a quiet awareness and listening to your body, you will find all the answers you seek!
We need to reintroduce you to yourself!
Then, you can tell yourself all the answers!
