Why is it so hard to lose weight?
Have you ever thought, "Why does weight have to be so complex and hard?".
I have, so many times.
Our weight is a reflection of many, many, things.
Our biology and chemistry.
Gut health.
Emotional health, resilience, and strength.
Self-love and discipline. (Yes, these go together.)
Our stage of life.
Inflammation.
Toxins.
Creative outlets, usually lack thereof.
Hormones - pregnancy, nursing, menopause.
Habits. Ability to form new ones.
Muscle mass and level of activity.
And lastly our diets,
Uncle!!!!... I need a nap now!
If you’ve read any of the thousands of books on this topic, you'd know there’s always a more. They publish new ones frequently. But no matter what you read, your unique body will have individual needs. Everything you need in your life, including food, will be different from others.
The human mind, body, and spirit are incredibly complex.
There is no “one size fits all” way to achieve an ideal weight. Furthermore, your ideal weight is personal to you too!
So then, where do you start?
With self-knowledge. And a lot of it.
You have to know yourself, what drives you, what motivates you, what makes you happy, what you like to eat, what you’re thinking and feeling, what your ideal life looks and feels like, what food feels good in your body, what movements fuels your energy, and what relaxation and sleep levels you need.
The desire to go into black and white, all or nothing, lose 90 lbs in 30 days, is an incredibly tempting way to think. This way of thinking isn’t useful and doesn’t work. But by golly, it won’t go away!
The solution is the baby step approach. One tiny change compounds quickly.
Change is simple. Managing our brain is not simple.
The coping mechanisms we developed in our childhood to protect us, eventually block us from the very change we want.
Once you start with the baby steps of change, these old patterns show up to stop us.
When these painful patterns show up, don’t stop! Instead, heal and make peace with these patterns. This is what allows it to shift. Then the results follow.
