The Power of Celebration
One of my favorite tools I use when working with clients is a tool of spending time appreciating accomplishments, gratitude, and giving yourself some credit where you have been successful.
Here is how you do it.
Get a notebook, preferably a pretty one.
In this notebook, you will only write your positive successes, your wins, what went right, how much better you are at feeling negative emotion, the days you were far less reactive, and all the great things that are going well for you.
When you take time to celebrate what is shifting and changing for the better, guess what happens?
You get more!
When you focus on what isn't working, and how you are a big fat failure, guess what happens?
You get more!
The point of this tool is to show yourself how many awesome things are going well for you right now.
You may miss out on the little things that are going well when you don't do this.
A great way to lose diet mentality (which is focusing on the big picture in an instant gratification way), is to look at what is going right today.
When you stay in the present and the wonderment of today, your big picture goals will always happen.
I promise.
Your mood shifts instantly when you begin to look at all the positive changes you have already made in your life.
You can't help but be grateful and happy when you look at what is going right already.
Everyone, I mean everyone, has piles of success and blessings in their life.
Many times what makes me the happiest isn't the big things, but the little things I take time to appreciate.
Here is my list:
A delicious healthy, home-cooked meal that the kids like and eat.
An evening when all the children follow our homework and bedtime schedule.
A day of actually doing the boring, but necessary admin work in my business.
Following my self-care schedule, even when I don't feel like it.
A kitchen full of groceries and meals planned.
Eating healthy not to lose weight but have high energy and feel well.
Realizing that for a whole year, I have shifted a habit that used to seem impossible to do.
Managing a situation that used to send me into a spin that now I can look at objectively or with humor and love.
See? Nothing earth-shattering in my list, but every time I look at it, I feel joy.
Complete joy and gratitude for the small things.
And now that my energy is higher, I'm ready to take on the day!
What are you grateful for, and what is already going amazing in your life?
